By removing the wall between
the dining room and kitchen it is now open and spacious. There are two islands: One is a breakfast island with prep sink and the
other is a prep/buffet island with reclaimed heart pine counter-top. The refrigerator area has a china hutch and bar area.

5' x 5' Laundry
room remodel. Even though this is a small room. I made every inch count. I bumped out an alcove for the stacked washer
& dryer. The homeowners wanted a utility sink in the laundry room as well as a place to fold clothes. I came up with this
solution. I designed it with a wall mounted utility sink. The countertop is actually 2 pieces of laminate with a piano hinge.
There is a magnet on the wall cabinet side & countertop which allows the countertop top to stay up when the
utility sink is in use. Clothes can still be on the counter to the left. I also added a metal rod which is attached
to the wall & wall cabinet above the utility sink. Clothes can now be hung. A wall cabinet was also added for detergents,
etc. Underneath the counter top there is room for laundry baskets & wastepaper baskets. Photo

Before: Master walk-in closet This closet has wire
shelves and rods. In some areas it has pulled away from the wall due to weight. Folded clothes topple easily leading to clutter.
|

"After" Master walk-in closet. This wall hung
closet unit now offers organization. I designed it around my clients wants, needs & budget. There are double & long hang,
cubbies for folded clothes & accessories, drawers for delicates, slanted shoe shelves, pullout valet bars, tie & belt racks,
and storage for suitcases, etc. It also allows larger items to be stored on the floor. Photo by Roxanne Marshall.

- The
original configuration of the laundry room was inadequate for the homeowners.
- Items on the wire shelving were in disarray
- Clothes had to be folded on the the
washer/dryer
- There was no room for a utility sink

"Before"
Master bathroom remodel. The layout and color scheme(red & green) was unacceptable to the homeowners. - The large tub which was rarely used took up most of the space.
- The tub was difficult to get in and out of and it was awkward to open the
window.
- The floor tile was slippery when wet and cold.
- The lighting was inadequate.
- The makeup vanity area was not used and it
was in the wrong location
- The door hinge swung into the master closet which was a safety
issue.

"After"
Master bathroom remodel. By changing the layout and color scheme the homeowners love their new bathroom. This layout is now
in keeping with the rest of the house. It's a place to relax and enjoy. - The clawfoot
tub is placed diagonal. Now when bathing one can look out the window.
- The window is now
accessible.
- For privacy I added a watercloset. This was done by adding a full wall with
a pocket door.
- I designed the bathroom for two plus users.
- The
vanities with drawers are separate from each other. One vanity is across from the custom shower and the other vanity is
to the right of the window facing the master closet.
- The door hinge leading from the master
bedroom to the bathroom was switched to the left. This allows for better traffic patterns.
- Recessed
lighting, wall sconces, and exhaust fan/light were also added.
- Flooring: In front of the
shower and in the powder room we put in earth tone tile. In the main part of the bathroom we opted for a wide pine floor.
Tung oil was used instead of polyurthane.
- Bead board with chair rail was also added to
the walls.
- The cabinets purchased through my firm are by Great Northern.
- Quartz countertops and tile were also purchased through me.

The
homeowners wanted to redesign their lower level. They had a number of designs from Architects but the plans didn't quite work
for their needs or their budget. Their wish list included the following: - New bathroom
- Larger workshop for the husband
- Larger storage area
- New
bedroom for the daughter
By listening to their needs and looking at the space with them
I suggested moving the bathroom and converting a bedroom to the new bathroom. There was an existing window and the location
was perfect. It was next to the garage and it would be across the hall from the new child's bedroom. The
old bathroom would be dismantled except we would leave the plumbing for the utility sink. The husband now had a workshop and
the storage area was solved. Instead of adding on, redesigning their current space was best
to accomodate their lifestyle.
